Since
humans began to walk upright, the body has been embroiled in a never ending
battle to maintain ideal musculoskeletal balance and equilibrium.Forces from gravity to nature, nurture, society
and culture compress our spines, drop our heads, slump our shoulders, and
shorten our stride urging our bodies into a vast array of musculoskeletal imbalances.
And without outside help, over time the body adapts to theses imbalances
creating a new state of equilibrium that is inefficient, painful, and often
leads to injury. The goal at Balanced
Bodywork, through the application of manual and movement therapies, is to help
each client restore and retain his or her own ideal musculoskeletal balance
before chronic pain and injury occur.
The
Body:
The
human body has often been described as a machine. That may be true, if you can imagine that
machine being a virtually endless web of malleable, spongy, plastic like
material held together by another web of malleable, spongy, plastic like
material the healthcare community call fascia.Fascia is an uninterrupted, three-dimensional web of tissue that extends
from head to toe, from front to back, from interior to exterior. It is
responsible for maintaining structural integrity; for providing support and
protection; and acts as a shock absorber.Stress and strain patterns in certain identifiable swatches of this
fascial web cause nerve endings in tendons, ligaments, and muscle bellies to send signals to the brain
resulting in pain, soreness, aches, etc.Balanced Bodywork focuses on assessing these stress and strain patterns
and facilitating an “unwinding” process in the affected swatches of fascia.
The Work:
Keeping in mind the ideas of
comprehensive pain management and customization, Think of the following
therapies as more of a brief list of tools used to provide effective treatment
than a menu of services from which to choose. One or all may be applied in each session
depending on each client’s specific needs.
